There can be times where you're in the app and suddenly it starts lagging. Fortunately, there are several tactics you can use to get around these headache inducing moments.
Refresh the app
If TIME Sites has been open in the browser tab for a long time (i.e. overnight), it's probably a good idea to refresh. This will ensure that you are up-to-date with the latest app code. TIME Sites eats up a lot of memory and can be at risk for slowing down the longer it's open. We recommend periodically refreshing the app for optimal performance. Try a hard refresh where you hold down the shift key as you refresh for better results.
Clear your browser cache
This is another culprit of slow browsers—regularly clearing your cache can help your overall web experience be faster.
Check your internet connection
TIME Sites needs a reliable internet connection in order to save your changes as you work. To be sure that internet speed isn’t an issue, double check your internet connection and verify your signal strength.
If you are working from behind a network that has a firewall, or uses a proxy server, in some cases this can cause issues with performance or the speed of file uploads.
Try disabling browser extensions
Some browser extensions may cause performance issues, or even cause errors while using TIME Sites. Try turning off all your extensions via the settings in Chrome, and see if the situation improves.
Some extensions related to text editing (i.e. Grammarly) can interfere with TIME Sites' text editor and cause problems, too. If you're seeing slowness or other issues while typing text, try disabling these extensions specifically.
Close unused tabs
Opening a lot of websites within TIME Sites can increase the amount of memory that the app uses. If you aren't currently working on a site, closing it out may improve the app's performance.
Similarly, you can try closing any unused browser tabs within Chrome, which may also free up some memory.
Check the minimum system requirements
The TIME Sites app will run faster the more available memory your computer has. If you are working on a very large website, with many elements on it, the memory demands will gradually increase. For this reason, we recommend you use a computer with at least 8GB of RAM, running either Windows 7 or higher, or Apple OS 10.10 or higher while working in the app.
Contact support
If the slowdown you are experiencing is severe, or if you are encountering a lot of errors or crashes, contact TIME Sites support using the "Live Support Chat" button at the bottom-right of the screen. We'll help you diagnose the issue as best we can!
