Image Specs

How should I format my images?
.jpg, .png, .svg, and .webp are all accepted. Please make sure images are RBG. 72dpi is standard resolution for web images, but with our image compression feature higher res images do not slow load time by much.

What size image do I need?

The size of the image you need depends on where you place it on your screen. If you have a full screen image, the width of the image should be at least 2400-3000px wide to look good on all device modes. For smaller images aim to have them be 1.5-2x the width of the space they're being placed into so they look good in Retina displays. TIME Sites does compress images for all device modes so you don't need to worry about creating new images for different devices.

What size should icons be?

Icons should ideally be uploaded as SVGs so as to preserve the edges. If SVG isn't an option then try to make them 1.5-2x the width that they will be on the website in order to keep the edges sharp and prevent blurring.

What size should Favicons be?

Your favicon should be a 32px x 32px

Do I need to compress my images?

It is not necessary for you to compress your images. TIME Sites will compress images at every device mode, for both dimensions and file size, and serve them up in the appropriate size in an efficient, web friendly format. We compress all files into web friendly .avif and .webp formats, so if you upload an image around 5mb it'll be compressed to under 300kb in more cases and not lose quality.

Video Specs

Different ways to upload video

There are a few different ways to add video to a site. You can upload a video directly, link to a Vimeo or YouTube video, or embed a video in from a third party like Brightcove or JW Player. Read on to learn the differences between each.

Uploading a video directly

You can upload videos directly into TIME Sites. We do have a 1GB file size limit and the video format must be .mp4. We do not have native video analytics, so videos uploaded won't have a view count or other statistics. You will want to upload a video directly when using it as a background video, or when analytics don't matter much.

Background video sizing

If you have a video you would like to use as a background video, the file size should be no larger than 5-8MB so that it loads quickly for users. Background videos can be larger than that, but then you run the risk of the video not loading or taking longer to load on slow internet connections. For an example of a Background Video you can view our Events page at the very start.

Does TIME Sites compress videos?

TIME Sites does not compress videos. If you have a video you wish to upload directly but need to compress it down so it's a smaller file size you can use Veed, a free video compression tool.

Using YouTube or Vimeo

You can use the shareable link from YouTube or Vimeo in our native video player. If you want to edit the video thumbnail that would be done in the platform where the video is hosted.

Using a different third party video streaming service

If you use a different video streaming service than YouTube or Vimeo, there is a chance that the shareable link might work in our native Video player. If it doesn't, you'll need to embed the video using the embed element.
